My Journey
I was born on a small island in Indonesia called Bangka. Since the age of 9, I have been immersed in cooking and experimenting with different menus. Cooking has become an integral part of my life's journey. For me, the culinary world knows no bounds and is always present as long as we can eat and savour it. I never had any intentions of pursuing formal culinary education; my background lies in Information Technology (IT), where I worked for about 20 years. However, my passion for cooking developed naturally. Growing up in a large family, my mother was my role model. She always cooked delicious home-cooked meals with various flavours and variations. As a big family, we always shared our meals. When I was young, I even helped my neighbours sell cakes. I didn't mind walking through the village, going from alley to alley, just to sell their cakes and enjoy some myself. At that time, I dreamt of having my own cake shop so that I could indulge in all the cakes without having to share.
A dream is not merely a dream. In 2003, after graduating from university and while pursuing a career in IT, I began dedicating my spare time to cooking and baking, which eventually turned into an online business. In 2013, my dream finally came true, and I focused on opening my own cake shop. In 2015, I made the decision to move to the UK, selling all my businesses and leaving my IT career behind. From 2016 to 2018, I devoted my time to my small family and continued cooking for them. I also became active on social media, sharing new cooking recipes. Towards the end of 2019, when the world was gripped by Covid-19, I decided to become a content creator on YouTube, sharing cooking and baking tutorials. To this day, I actively create content on YouTube, introducing various culinary delights, especially those from Indonesia, to anyone who wishes to try and learn.
One of the most popular series on my YouTube channel is "International Tasting" or "ICIP-ICIP INTERNASIONAL" (in Indonesian), where I cook Indonesian food for people to try dishes they have never tasted before. The most rewarding aspect of working in the culinary world is the joy that comes from sharing a plate of food. Through food, we share not only flavours and cultures but also happiness, bridging the gap between strangers and fostering understanding.
